The LacieCakes - Sweet Somethings (SS) personal messaging system allows you to add a personal message to a jewelry item. When the appropriate trigger is used in open chat, it plays the message. The message can be played over and over again as many times as you like. It's a lot better than an engraving that can't be seen very well on the tiny detailed prims that jewelry has.
Not all items have the (SS) system so be sure to read the LacieCakes ad for the item you wish to purchase. If there's an item in the store that doesn't automatically include this system, for a small extra fee IM: Lacie Chambers and it can be added for you!
To use the system to personalize the item you purchased, you'll need to rez the item to the ground (be sure not to lose it) or wear the item. On intial rez, directions only visible to the owner will show up in yellow in open chat only once. The great thing is it can detect a new owner so if you rez the item, set your message, then give the item as a gift - when the new owner wears the item the directions will play again!
You'll then follow the simple directions to set your personal message. Pick the item back up or detach it and then give your gift to the intended recipient!
This system doesn't automatically play the message on avatar rez or log in because I find that often the message can be missed and if you crash ten times in a row it can get annoying to other residents in SL. As mentioned above, the message can be played in open chat as many times as the owner likes.
